Persian Kashan Carpet

Description of Design and History

This most attractive specimen exemplifies the workshop’s style, with its pale cream ground elegantly decorated with a spacious “Shah Abbass” scheme of palmettos and stylized floral and vegetal elements piled in soft colors, like soft red, pale turquoise, crimson, dark blue soft rose – pink, tan and yellow ochre. The light beige main border carries lotus and other stylized palmettos interspersed with diverse foliate forms, detailed in full field palette, and is set between ivory side borders of rosette-and-stem meanders, and red and blue saw tooth guard stripes. This example is in excellent condition, this is a most appealing Kashan rug of graceful decorative effect.
