Description of Design and History

A classic central medallion room size GHAZWIN carpet is woven from early years of the Pahlavi dynasty. The elegant medallion lozenge in dark blue, enclosing a red color ground inner panel. This sumptuous and unusual rug is woven in the thick, soft, neck- wool of the domestic Persian sheep known as Kork. Peach ground field decorated with artistic small Flowers and palmettos. A saturated dark blue main border of palmettos and sickle leaves in the beautiful colors of the field is strikingly set between attractive cream guards carrying rosette meanders, and two pale blue stripes with repeat designs in soft pink and mid red. In excellent condition, this is a text-book Ghazwin medallion carpet of the most prestigious pedigree.
